Because of our “money over matter” existence, humans have essentially become a deadly plague to all life on Earth. If we manage to survive long enough as a species and create the necessary technology, we will likely have to leave Earth for a new world. If we somehow manage to avoid destroying Earth’s ecology ourselves, the sun will do it for us in about 5 billion years when it becomes a red giant star and renders our planet unlivable. However, it is not clear if the Earth will be consumed by the sun.
I have always loved Dvorak’s New World Symphony, especially the hymn and what it represents. This movement depicts that departure using an A-B-A structure. The B section echoes Dvorak’s haunting melody, but has my voice, our voices, as its harmonic structure.
